Earlier this week, the Bluefield University women's golf team made history with its first-ever appearance in the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament. The team, comprised of three freshmen and one junior, finished 7th overall in one of the most competitive conferences in the NAIA, with several nationally ranked programs in the field.
Vice President of Athletics and Student Development, Corey Mullins, traveled with the team and reflected on their performance and progress throughout the season.
"I couldn't be more proud of how our women's golf program represented Bluefield at the conference tournament this week," said Mullins. "The AAC has some of the best women's golf teams in the nation, with four ranked in the top 25. Our team stayed focused, competed well, and improved every round. With four new members this season—three freshmen and one junior college transfer—I'm excited to see how this program develops over the next couple of years."
The Rams showed remarkable improvement from the fall to the spring season, shaving an impressive 160 strokes off their overall team score.
Savannah Riley led the way for the Rams, finishing in the top 25 with a final score of +31. In addition to her strong performance on the course, Riley was honored as a member of the AAC Champions of Character Team, recognizing her commitment to the core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
Also contributing to the Rams' success were Linsey Howlett (+51), Emma Vickers (+63), and Stella Gunter (+96).
With a young core and a season of firsts now behind them, the Rams are excited about the progress they've made and are looking to make an even bigger splash in the seasons to come.
