Bluefield, VA — Despite being down by 10 points, the Bluefield University Rams staged an impressive comeback to defeat Truett McConnell University 70-67, at The Dome Gymnasium. This thrilling AAC contest highlighted the Rams' resilience and determination to defend their home court.
The Rams entered the game following two earlier home matchups this week, facing their third challenge against a Truett McConnell team that had bested them earlier this season. Eager for redemption, Bluefield made the most of their home-court advantage to turn the tables on the Bears.
The game opened with the Bears taking an early lead, finishing the first half up 37-30. However, the Rams regrouped during the break and stormed back in the second half. Justin Wiggins led the charge with a team-high 18 points, while Elijah White contributed 14 points, and Donavon Martin added 10 points and 8 rebounds. Quantavis McKinney and Jordan Lineberger were also pivotal, with McKinney recording 9 points and 11 rebounds and Lineberger contributing 8 points and 5 rebounds.
The final 30 seconds of the game were a showcase of heart-pounding action. Down by three, Truett McConnell attempted a three-point shot to tie the game, but it missed. Donavon Martin secured a critical game-winning rebound as the clock expired, sealing the Rams' victory and sending their fans into a frenzy.
With this victory, Bluefield University improves their season record to 5-12, including a 5-8 mark in conference play. Truett McConnell's record now stands at 8-10 overall, 6-2 in the AAC. This win not only avenges the Rams' earlier loss to the Bears but also sets the stage for the remainder of their season with renewed vigor.
