Rams rally late to down Shawnee State

BLUEFIELD – The Bluefield University Rams scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to take the lead and defeat the Shawnee State University Bears 15-13, Tuesday afternoon at Bowen Field and gave head coach Mike White his 495th coaching victory.
INSIDE THE GAME
  • Bluefield took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first, two runs coming on a double by Sean Seale.
  • Shawnee State tied the game with four in the top of the second.
  • The Rams moved ahead in the second on a solo home run by Matt Beisecker, and a two-run single by Moises Aristy.
  • The Bears tied the game again in the third at seven.
  • BU pushed ahead with an RBI single by Graham Dalton in the third, and two runs scoring on errors in the fourth.
  • SSU reclaimed the lead with four runs in the fifth to lead 11-10.
  • Bluefield tied in the fifth on a Brady Joslyn blast to left center, and took a 12-11 lead in the sixth on a run-scoring single by Andres Vega.
  • Shawnee State again tied the game at 12 in the seventh and took a 13-12 lead in the eighth.
  • The Rams played small ball in the eighth, using three consecutive bunts combined with Bears errors to take the lead.
  • Bluefield had 16 hits in the game, Shawnee State 19.
  • The teams combined for eight errors.

  • Noah Burtner earned his second win of the season as he pitched the eighth inning.
  • Jaren Woodcock picked up his second save of the year as he closed out the game in the ninth.
  • Joslyn led the BU hit parade with three hits and two RBI.
  • Dalton, Nick Guerra, Bryce Medlock, and Beisecker each had two hits.
