Box Score 2 BLUEFIELD – The Reinhardt University Eagles, ranked #22 in the NAIA, took a pair of Appalachian Athletic Conference softball games from the Bluefield University Rams, Thursday afternoon at Graham Rec Park.
The Eagles took the opening game 9-0 as the Eagles' Whitney Shepherd tossed a no-hitter. Shepherd faced one batter over the minimum.
MacKenzie Franklin, BU's second hitter, drew a first inning walk. Shepherd proceeded to retire the next 14 batters, 11 via strikeout. It was a close game on the scoreboard until Reinhardt scored six times in the fifth. Shepherd struck out the side in the bottom of the fifth to end the game on the run rule.
Reinhardt took game two 7-0. The Rams got their first hit of the day in the bottom of the third, a single by
Alexis McDuffie and Brooklyn Schwartz followed with a base knock. Bluefield other two hits, both singles, were by
Camryn Dilla in the fourth, and a pinch-hit single by
Caitlin Zagas in the seventh.
The Rams will celebrate Senior Day, Saturday at Graham Rec Park as CIU comes to town for an AAC doubleheader.
