Softball drops two at KCU

GRAYSON, Ky. – Bluefield University softball took to the road for the first time in the 2024 season and dropped a pair of Appalachian Athletic Conference games to Kentucky Christian University. The Rams fell 5-4 in eight innings in the opening game, and lost the nightcap 13-5.
GAME ONE
KCU 5, BLUEFIELD 4 – EIGHT INNINGS
INSIDE THE GAME
  • The Rams took a 1-0 lead in the first when Breyana Ellett touched home on a wild pitch. BU held that 1-0 lead until the bottom of the sixth when the Knights scored twice to take a 2-1 lead.
  • Bluefield tied the game in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Gianna Sloan-Lebron and took the lead in the eighth on a solo home run by Kenidy Harris. The Rams added another run on an error to lead 4-2.
  • Kentucky Christian walked it off on a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
LEADERS
  • Ellett led the Rams with three hits.
  • Harris had two hits including a home run.
  • Hallie Cox pitched seven-and-a -third innings and suffered her first loss of the season. She picked up six strikeouts.
GAME TWO
KCU 13, BLUEFIELD 5 - FIVE INNINGS
INSIDE THE GAME
  • BU led 5-0 after its first two at-bats. Ellett had a run-scoring single in the first, and the Rams scored four in the second, two on a ground rule double by Kaylee Hughes, and two more on Ellett's single.
  • KCU scored 13 unanswered runs, finishing with five in the fifth to invoke the run rule and end the game.
LEADERS
  • Ellett had two of Bluefield's seven hits and batted in three runs.
  • Hughes finished with two RBI.
NEXT IN LINE
  • The Rams visit AAC foe Truett McConnell, Thursday for a pair of games.
