Baseball wins series at Union

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – Bluefield University baseball swept a doubleheader from the Union College Bulldogs, Saturday afternoon in Appalachian Athletic Conference action. The Rams took game one 16-14 and claimed the nightcap 13-9 to win the day and the series two games to one. Union won the series opener Friday, 7-5.
SATURDAY GAME ONE
BLUEFIELD 16, UNION 14
INSIDE THE GAME
  • Bluefield plated eight runs in the first inning. Two scored on a two-run double by Johnny Medina, two more on singles by Moises Aristy and Nick Guerra, and Matt Beisecker rounded out the inning's scoring with a grand slam home run.
  • Union scored five in the first and three in the third to tie the game.
  • BU took the lead for good with two runs in the fifth.
  • Beisecker went yard again in the seventh inning.
  • Bluefield pounded out 18 hits in the contest.
  • Each Ram batter collected at least one hit in the game.
LEADERS
  • Beisecker was 3-for-5 with five RBI.
  • Medina was 2-for-5 with three runs batted in.
  • Andres Vega, Brady Joslyn, Aristy, Sean Seale, Guerra, and Bryce Medlock each had a pair of hits.
  • Jaren Woodcock, the third of five Bluefield pitchers in the game, picked up the win. Woodcock worked three-and-two-third innings, allowed a pair of runs on three hits and struck out three.

INSIDE THE GAME
  • The Rams scored three times in the first, one on a Joslyn single and two more on Seale's two-run double.
  • The Bulldogs responded with five runs in the bottom of the first.
  • BU tied the game with two in the third and took the lead with two in the fourth on a Medina two-run home run.
  • Bluefield put the game away with six in the sixth. Medina blasted his second two-run homer of the game, Guerra brought home two with a single, and Vega plated two with a double.
LEADERS
  • Medina was 4-for-4 with a pair of two-run home runs and four RBI.
  • Joslyn collected three hits.
  • Vega and Seale both had two hits.
  • Gabrielle Delvalle picked up the win. Delvalle pitched six innings and struck out four.

INSIDE THE GAME
  • BU scored two in the first on a two-run homer by Medina.
  • Union scored one in the first then added six in the third to move ahead 7-2.
  • The Rams scored in the fourth on a passed ball.
  • Joslyn smacked a two-run home run in the ninth.

  • Medina was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
  • Joslyn was 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI.
  • Guerra and Medlock had two hits each.

  • The Rams host Shawnee State, Tuesday, in a nine inning, non-conference game. First pitch at Bowen Field is set for 3:00.
