Tech wrecks baseball home opener

BLUEFIELD – The Bluefield University Rams dropped a 9-3 contest to the West Virginia University Tech Golden Bears in the Rams home opener, Friday afternoon at Bowen Field.
INSIDE THE GAME
  • The Rams took the lead in the bottom of the first when Andres Vega and Johnny Medina singled, and Vega scored on a fielder's choice by Sean Seale.
  • BU made it 2-0 in the third playing small ball with a couple of bunts and a WVUT error.
  • Bluefield pitcher Tyrone Woods retired the first nine WVU Tech batters in the game.
  • Tech tied the game in the fourth thanks to a Bluefield error and a wild pitch.
  • Six runs by the Golden Bears in the fifth put the game away.
LEADERS
  • Vega was 3-for-4 at the plate.
  • Woods suffered the loss working four-and-two-third innings on the mound and striking out four.
  • Bryce Dees pitched four innings in relief and allowed one run.

  • Weather permitting the Rams host Carolina University for a single nine innings game, Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Bowen Field.
