Bluefield, VA — The Bluefield Rams displayed determination in their latest conference match-up against the Montreat Cavaliers. Despite a strong effort and a spirited comeback, they ultimately fell short, losing 67-58.
Game Highlights
Destiny Long led the charge for the Rams, scoring a team-high 18 points, pulling down 7 rebounds, and adding 2 assists. She was efficient from the free-throw line, hitting 6 of 8 for a 75% success rate. Ahmiah Jordan also delivered a solid performance, contributing 15 points, including two 3-pointers, and grabbing 5 rebounds. Lina Pagan added 12 points, going 7 for 9 from the charity stripe, and collected 3 rebounds to help keep the Rams in the game.
While the Rams showed grit, they struggled to capitalize on crucial moments, particularly second-chance opportunities. Montreat's early lead proved to be the difference, but Bluefield's strong defensive play and second-half rally kept them within striking distance.
Coach's Corner
Head Coach Jake Wright shared his thoughts after the game: "I thought we started the game out strong, but we hit a wall in the second quarter that put us playing from behind the rest of the game. We have to be able to bottle up that good start and maintain it for 4 quarters. Once we figure out how to put 4 quarters together we will be cooking. We are not far away from it; we just have to find a way to win a couple more possessions."
Looking Ahead
The Rams will look to regroup as they prepare for their next game—an exhibition match-up against local rivals, Bluefield State. The game is set for 2 PM at the Dome Gymnasium. Fans can anticipate an exciting and competitive showdown as the Rams aim to bounce back and gain momentum heading into the rest of the season.
