Rams cage up Tigers

BLUEFIELD – The Bluefield University Rams Football team improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 34-21 win over Campbellsville University, Saturday afternoon at Mitchell Stadium. The in over the Tigers was BU's first in the series as Campbellsville had won the three previous games dating back to 2012.
INSIDE THE GAME
  • On its first possession and its first offensive play Nathan Herstich connected with Thomas Lee for a 48-yard touchdown pass. Riley Stubbs kicked the point to give BU a 7-0 lead.
  • Campbellsville tied at 7-7 on a four-play 87-yard drive.
  • Cortarius Gilmore rushed three yards for a score and Stubbs' kick made it 14-7.
  • Stubbs' 37 yard field goal at the gun to end the half put Bluefield ahead 17-7.
  • Gilmore scored his second TD with 4:13 to play in the third and Stubbs' kick made it 24-7.
  • Campbellsville scored on a 62-yard run to make the score 24-14.
  • Early in the fourth quarter Cadence Lampp rushed five yards for the score and the extra point put the Rams ahead 31-14.
  • Campbellsville added a touchdown midway through the fourth to make it 31-21.
  • Stubbs closed out the game's scoring with a 31-yard field goal with 3:03 to play to make it 34-21.
LEADERS
  • Herstich completed 21-of-29 passes for 293 yards and a touchdown.
  • Gilmore carried 15 times for 73 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Thomas Lee caught five passes for 124 yards and a touchdown.
  • Lampp and Gage Chambers each had four receptions.
  • Quincy Robinson had nine tackles and 2.5 sacks.
  • Tyrese Wolfe had seven tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception.
  • Stubbs finished 4-for-4 on extra points, 2-for-2 on field goals with a long of 37, an average of 43.2 yards on five punts, and on six kickoffs two were touchbacks.
