PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Bluefield University pitchers combined to toss a three hitter and the Rams got two long balls to defeat the University of Pikeville Bears 8-2 in non-conference baseball action Tuesday afternoon.
UPike took a 1-0 lead in the second, but it was short lived as the Rams scored three in the third to take a lead they would not relinquish. BU added four in the fifth and rounded out their scoring with one in the sixth.
Bluefield pitchers allowed only three hits in the game. Garrett Salameno worked the first three innings and allowed a pair of runs on two hits. Jason Downs pitched the final six innings and gave up no runs on one hit with four strikeouts. Downs earned the win.
At the plate the Rams got home runs from David Meech and Bryce Medlock. Meech finished the day 2-for-3 with three RBI. Reece Genter was 2-for-4 with three runs knocked in, and Briley Harlan was 2-for-5 with a double.
The Rams are back in action Thursday at Bowen Field as Cleary University from Michigan comes to town for a doubleheader.
