BLUEFIELD – The Bluefield University Rams ran past Cleary (Mich.) University 13-4 in game two of a doubleheader Thursday afternoon to earn a split with the Cougars. Cleary took game one in come-from-behind fashion 7-5.
In the opener Cleary scored one in the fifth and the Rams tied in the bottom of the inning on a
Bryce Medlock sacrifice fly. BU took the lead in the sixth on a
David Meech solo home run and added two more on a two-run double by
Brady Joslyn to take a 4-1 lead. Cleary inched closer with two in the seventh, then scored four in the eighth to take the lead and gain the win.
Andrew Arguello started on the mound for Bluefield, pitched fie innings, allowed a run on three hits with three strikeouts.
Lucas Cash suffered the loss, pitching the eighth and the ninth innings. Meech was 3-for-5 with a home run.
Max Aristy,
Johnny Medina, and Joslyn each had a pair of hits.
Game two saw Clearly post a three on the board in the first inning. Bluefield responded with two in the first and took the lead in the second on Aristy's three-run homer to left. Aiden Brown homered for the Rams in the fifth and
Dylan Cutler had an RBI triple.
Jordan Brown, the second of four BU pitchers, gained the victory.
Ryan Voss started for the Rams and pitched four innings. He allowed four runs on three hits and struck out four. Aiden Brown and
Briley Harlan were both 3-for-3. Brown knocked in two runs, Harlan three. Meech and Medina each had a pair of hits.
The Rams (9-9) are back in action March 15 with a non-conference date at Alice Lloyd.
