Baseball takes season series opener at Carolina

MOCKSVILLE, N.C. – Bluefield University baseball opened the 2023 season taking a three-game series from the Carolina University Bruins. Carolina took the opening game Saturday, but the Rams charged back to sweep Sunday's doubleheader.
Game One
Carolina 6, Bluefield 4
The Bruins scored six times in the first inning to take control. The Rams tagged a four on the scoreboard in the third, but could not push any other runs across.
Dylan Cutler and Reece Genter were both 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Troy Leibert suffered the loss, pitching four innings and striking out three.
Game Two
Bluefield 14, Carolina 12
The Rams scored seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to erase a five-run deficit and gain their first win of the season. BU banged out 18 hits in the contest.
Max Aristy was 4-for-5 with an RBI. Briley Harlan was 3-for-4 with five RBIs and had a home run and two doubles.  Cutler finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs, and Genter was 3-for-3 at the plate. Lucas Cash, the third pitcher of the game for BU picked up the win. Cash worked one inning and struck out one. Noah Burtner earned the save.
Game Three
Bluefield 17, Carolina 1
BU picked up the doubleheader sweep and took the series with a 15-hit performance in the series finale. Aristy led Bluefield as he was 4-for-4 with three home runs and seven RBIs. Brady Joslyn was 4-for-5 with four runs knocked in and a homer. Jordan Brown pitched the final three innings to gain the win. Brown gave up one hit, one run, and struck out three.
