BLUEFIELD – Bluefield University baseball benefited from three consecutive errors by WVU Tech in the bottom of the seventh inning and scored three runs to walk off with a 3-2 win in the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader at Bowen Field. The Rams took a 14-9 win in the nightcap to complete the doubleheader and series sweep. BU defeated WVUT 5-4 Friday in the series opener.
FRIDAY GAME
BLUEFIELD 5, WVU TECH 4
The Rams scored three runs in the seventh to erase the Golden Bears' 4-2 lead.
Johnny Medina and
Bryce Medlock were each 2-for-4. Medina knocked in a run.
Tyler Lowrey pitched five innings in relief to gain the victory and
Noah Burtner earned the save.
SATURDAY
GAME ONE
BLUEFIELD 3, WVU TECH 2
In a scheduled seven-inning game the Golden Bears committed errors on three consecutive Rams batters in the bottom of the seventh, allowing three runs to cross the plate and give Bluefield the win.
Reece Genter was 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Medina was 2-for-4 with a double, and Medlock was 2-for-3.
Andrew Arguello pitched the final two innings to get the win. He struck out two.
GAME TWO
BLUEFIELD 14, WVU TECH 9
The Rams scored six times in the first inning and held on to win the series finale and push their season record to 5-1.
Kevin Torres was hot at the plate for BU as he was 3-for-5 with a pair of home runs and five RBIs.
David Meech and Genter were also 3-for-5 with Meech knocking in a pair of runs. Arguello picked up his second win of the day as the third of five BU pitchers.
NEXT IN LINE
The Rams open Appalachian Athletic Conference play Friday at Union College with a single game. The two teams square off for a twinbill, next Saturday.
