Rams muzzle Bulldogs

BLUEFIELD – Bluefield University football concluded its home season with a 20-12 win over Union College, on Senior Night, Saturday at Mitchell Stadium. The victory gave the Rams a 5-4 overall record and 3-2 mark in the Appalachian Athletic Conference with the season finale, Nov. 11 at NAIA No. 21 and AAC No. 1 Reinhardt University.
INSIDE THE GAME
  • The Rams took the opening kickoff and drove deep into Bulldogs territory before the drive stalled and Riley Stubbs booted a 20-yard field goal to give BU a 3-0 lead with 9:46 on the first quarter clock.
  • BU made it 10-0 just over two minutes later when Gage Chambers hauled in a 24-uard pass from Nathan Herstich. Gibbs booted the extra point.
  • Union got on the board with 1:53 left in the first quarter on a two-yard TD run, then made it a one-point game late in the second quarter when they recorded a safety. Bluefield carried a 10-9 lead into halftime.
  • The Rams extended their lead to 17-9 on a Herstich three-yard pass to George Adjei with 5:29 to play in the third. Stubbs' kick was good.
  • Union drew to within five points on a field goal with less than a minute to play in the third.
  • Bluefield scored the game's final points with 12:28 remaining when Stubbs booted his second field goal of the game.
  • Union out-gained Bluefield in total yardage 407-247.
  • Bluefield won the turnover battle, picking off two passes and recovering a fumble.
LEADERS
  • Herstich completed 15-of-25 pases for 187 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Nate Monroe had a game-high six catches for 74 yards.
  • Logan Patron led the defense with 11 tackles, six solo.
  • Leyton Fowler had seven tackles including a sack and 1.5 tackles-for-loss.
