BLUEFIELD – Bluefield University women's basketball team gained its first win of the season Tuesday evening, 87-85 in overtime over the St. Andrews University Knights in an Appalachian Athletic Conference game at the Dome Gymnasium.
INSIDE THE GAME

• The Rams opened a 9-0 lead before the Knights closed to within a point. BU led 17-16 at the end of the first quarter.
• Bluefield moved ahead by 10 points with three minutes left in the second quarter and led by nine, 40-31 at halftime.
• SAU went on a 21-10 run to take the lead with two minutes left in the third and Kiaa Boyd's bucket with seconds left in the quarter gave BU a 56-54 lead going into the final 10 minutes.
• St. Andrews regained the lead with just over three minutes left in regulation. The teams were tied at 73 at the end of regulation.
• In overtime Emily Breeding hit a three to give Bluefield an 80-78 lead.
• SAU, with only seven players available, played the final 90 seconds of the overtime period with only four players as three Knights fouled out.
• The game's final tie at 80 was broken when Destiny Long hit a pair of free throws with 1:30 on the clock.

LEADERS

• Boyd and Long each scored 27 points in the game. Boyd added a team-high 13 rebounds, and Long had eight rebounds, five assists, and a steal.
• Breeding finished with 13 points and three assists.
