BLUEFIELD - Bluefield University women's volleyball opened its home and Appalachian Athletic Conference season with a 3-0 win over the Milligan University Buffaloes, Thursday night at the Dome Gymnasium. With the win the Rams moved to 1-0 in AAC play and 3-5 overall.
In a night where Bluefield University honored the late Caitlin Gable, more than $650 was raised to benefit the Epilepsy Foundation of North Carolina. Gable, a softball player at BU passed on Aug. 9 and had battled epilepsy throughout her life.
INSIDE THE MATCH
- Milligan jumped ahead early in the opening set before Bluefield tied the game at nine, and took its first lead 11-10. BU went up by four points before the final margin of eight, 25-17.
- St two was close and Milligan held the early lead until Bluefield knotted things at 11. The Rams embarked on a 13-7 run and won the second set 25.18
- The Rams and Buffaloes battled in the third and the Rams built an early four-point lead. Milligan forged ahead and built a four-point lead midway through the set at 17-13. After a pair of time outs, Bluefield closed the match on a 12-5 run to win 25-22 and take the match.
