Rams outlast Royals

BLUEFIELD – Bluefield University women's volleyball defeated the Johnson University Royals in AAC action Tuesday night at the Dome Gymnasium in five sets.

INSIDE THE MATCH
  • The Rams held an early four-point lead in the opening set before the Royals drew even at 17 and took a brief lead. A 4-0 BU run put the Rams back in command and Bluefield took the opening set 26-24.
  • The teams played tight until Johnson opened an 18-13 lead. The Rams challenged but Johnson took set two 25-21 to even the match 1-1.
  • JU held the early lead before a BU run put the Rams up by six. Bluefield took the third set 25-18 to take a 2-1 lead.
  • Johnson led from the start in the fourth set. Bluefield closed to within two points but could not draw closer. JU won the fourth set 25-18 to force a deciding fifth set.
  • Johnson rolled to a 4-0 lead in the final set before the Rams tied at four, then six. Johnson pulled ahead by three only to see Bluefield knot the set at 12. The Rams rallied and took the final set 17-15 to claim the match.
