Rams shut out Reinhardt

BLUEFIELD – Jocilyn Thompson pitched a complete game shutout and Bluefield College Softball picked up one of its biggest wins in program history, defeating Reinhardt University 2-0 Friday afternoon at Graham Rec Park in the first of two games.
The Rams took the lead in the third when Claudia Santana ripped a triple to deep right-center. The throw from the outfield went out of play and Santana was granted home plate. Later in the inning Kristina Sanchez reached on an error, stole second and came home on a single by Lexi Harmon. That would be all the scoring BC needed.
Thompson was strong on the mound for the Rams. She struck out seven in her seven innings of work. Santana led Bluefield with a pair of hits.
Reinhardt entered the game with a 30-8 overall record, 14-4 in Appalachian Athletic Conference play. They were percentage points out of third place. Bluefield head coach Sam White spoke of his team's efforts.
"J.T. gave us a great start today. She showed a lot of maturity in a few jams to complete the shutout," White said. "The offense saw some of the best pitching in our conference. I'm proud of how we kept grinding until finally breaking on top late. It's a big win for our kids."
