Rams hold off Union

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – Bluefield College snapped its six-game skid with a 42-40 win over the Union College Bulldogs, Saturday evening in the second meeting of the season between the two teams. The Rams defeated Union to open the season, and the most recent game gave BC its first conference win of the season.
Five Tanner Griffith field goals and a pick sixes by Charles Turner and Steven Mackall helped power the Rams to the win. The Rams led 6-3 after the first quarter, 22-13 at halftime, and 39-20 headed into the fourth quarter. Union made a run with three fourth quarter touchdowns, but never gained the lead and the Rams held on for the win.
Josh Nelson, making his first start at quarterback, was 21-of-36 passing for 270 yards and a touchdown. Nelson also ran for a score. Jaquan Ebron caught nine passes for 127 yards and a score. Cadence Lampp was BC's leading rusher with 45 yards.
Defensively, Charles Turner returned an interception 64 yards for a touchdown, and Steven Mackall returned another 13 yards for a score. Tavarius Corbitt, Bobby McBride, and Jackson Charlton-Perrin were the leading tacklers, each with five stops.
The Rams close the season next Saturday as they travel to Montgomery, Ala., to take on Faulkner University.
