Truett McConnell takes series opener

BLUEFIELD – Truett McConnell University defeated the Bluefield College Rams 11-8, Friday afternoon in the opening game  of an Appalachian Athletic Conference doubleheader at Bowen Field.
The visiting Bears scored two in the first to take the lead, only to see the Rams forge ahead with five in the bottom of the first.
Leadoff hitter Jeremie Garcia doubled and scored on a single by Nate Cobb. Ozzie Millet later walked and scored on a single by Taylor Meaux to tie the game. Clay Wisner, who reached on a fielder's choice, and Meaux scored on a hit by David Meech. The Rams' final run of the inning came when Eligha Lewis came home on a ground out.
Truett knotted things in the top of the second. The game remained tied until the fourth when the Bears scored four, and then added two in the fifth to take an 11-5 lead.
Bluefield cut into the Truett McConnell lead in the fifth as Wisner slammed a two-run home run over the wall in left. BC's final run came in the seventh when Meech drove home a run with a double.
Meech was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Garcia had a pair of hits and Wisner drove in two runs.
Andrew Arguello, Bluefield's starting pitcher, took the loss. Arguello pitched four innings and struck out one. Steven Estep worked the final five frames for the Rams and picked up six strikeouts.
