Rams take opener against Rio Grande

BLUEFIELD - Max Aristy raced home on a wild pitch to give Bluefield College the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning and a 3-2 win over the University of Rio Grande Red Storm, Tuesday afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader at Bowen Field.
The Rams struck early as leadoff batter Jeremie Garcia walked, went to third on a Nate Cobb single and scored on a Clay Wisner sacrifice fly. BC moved ahead 2-0 in the third when Garcia singled and scored on Ozzie Millet's double. The Red Storm scored twice in the fourth to tie the game.
In the bottom of the sixth Millet led off and was hit by a pitch. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Wisner. Max Aristy came in to run for Millet at second base and he went to third on a fly out by Taylor Meaux. A wild pitch allowed Aristy to scamper the final 90 feet and give the Rams the lead and eventual win.
The Rams were held to four hits in the game. Justin Coleman, who pitched the final one-and-one-third innings, got the win. He allowed one hit and struck out one. Jason Downs started on the mound for BC and pitched five-and-two-third innings and picked up three strikeouts.
