Rams sweep Red Storm

BLUEFIELD - David Meech's solo home run in the bottom of the sixth broke a 2-2 tie and the Bluefield College Rams defeated the University of Rio Grande Red Storm 6-2 in the nightcap of Tuesday's doubleheader at Bowen Field.
Rio took the lead with two runs in the third and the Rams drew even in the bottom of the inning. Elianel Mejia doubled and scored on Jeremie Garcia's single. Garcia stole second and scored on a single by Ozzie Millet to tie the game.
The contest remained tied until the bottom of the sixth. With one out Meech slammed his home run over the wall in right to give BC the lead. The Rams were not finished as they scored three additional runs to take the 6-2 win.
Meech, Millet, and Garcia each had two hits and an RBI. Clay Wisner had two hits.
Colton Bochtler, who pitched a hitless sixth inning for the Rams picked up the win.
BC head coach Mike White commented on the two wins by the Rams, both coming in the team's last at-bat.
"Those were two good team wins. We got a great effort from our pitching staff, and offensively we got some timely hitting," White said.
The Rams open a three-game Appalachian Athletic Conference series Friday at Bowen Field against Truett McConnell.
