Reinhardt takes series rubber match

BLUEFIELD – Bluefield College and Reinhardt University wrapped up their three-game Appalachian Athletic Conference series Saturday afternoon at Bowen Field and Reinhardt used a strong sixth inning to take an 11-7 win over the Rams and win the series two games to one.
BC took the lead in the bottom of the first as leadoff hitter Jeremie Garcia singled, was sacrificed to second and scored on a hit by Ozzie Millet. The Rams lead stood until the top of the second when the Eagles scored twice to take the lead. Bluefield regained the lead in with two runs in the third. Nate Cobb walked and eventually scored on a Taylor Meaux single to right. Reinhardt tied the game with a single run in the fifth, then exploded for six runs in the sixth to lead 9-3.
The Rams did not quit, scoring a single run in the sixth and two in the seventh to draw closer. Reinhardt, however, scored single runs in the eighth and ninth. BC scored a final run in the ninth, but the visiting Eagles took the 11-7 victory.
Bluefield outhit Reinardt 14-11 and both teams committed two errors. Leading the hit parade for the Rams was Garcia who was 3-for-5 with an RBI. Taylor Meaux and David Meech were both 2-for-4 with two runs batted in. Eligha Lewis was 2-for-5 with one RBI.
Ben Coffman, Bluefield's starting pitcher suffered the loss. Coffman pitched five-and-one-third innings and struck out four.
BC dropped to 8-12 in AAC play and 15-18 overall. Reinhardt moved to 11-7 in league play and 24-10 in all games. The Rams will host Rio Grande in a non-conference doubleheader, Tuesday.
