Late Point drive upends Rams

BLUEFIELD – Bluefield College Football returned to Mitchell Stadium, Saturday night and dropped a heartbreaking 28-23 contest to Mid-South Conference Appalachian Division foe Point University.
The Rams got the first break of the game, when a bobbled Point punt snap gave BC the ball on the Skyhawks 11 yard line Moments later Credence Lampp rushed across the goal from one yard out. Tanner Griffith, returning to action for the first time since week two, kicked the extra point to make it 7-0 with 12:07 left in the first quarter.
Point drew even late in the quarter on a 29-yard touchdown pass that capped an 80-yard drive. Bluefield retook the lead in the second on a six-yard TD pass from Bryce Verble to Antonio Strickland. The kick failed. Bluefield pushed its lead to 20-7 just before the end of the first half when Michael Everett recovered a Point fumble and took it in from three yards out. Griffin's extra point was good.
The Skyhawks scored on their first possession of the second half to make it 20-14. BC then drove to the PU two-yard line, but Griffith's field goal attempt with 26 seconds to play in the third was blocked. The visitors took the lead when they returned a punt 48 yards for a touchdown. The kick broke the tie and Point led for the first time in the game.
The Rams were not finished. Griffith booted a 41-yard field goal with 7:09 to go in the game to put Bluefield College back on top 23-21. Point, however, drove the field and scored with 3:30 on the clock to go ahead and claim the win.
Lampp led Bluefield in rushing with 64 yards. Verble completed 18-of-34 passes for 164 yards, a touchdown, and three interceptions. Jaquan Ebron and Strickland each had five catches, Ebron for 66 yards, Strickland for 34 with a score.
Defensively Jackson Charlton-Perrin led with eight tackles. Bodan N'Dalla had six, and Everett, Zaire Lindsey, and DaMarcus Wimbush each had five.
