Men's Volleyball races past Carolina U.

BLUEFIELD –  Bluefield College Men's Volleyball opened Saturday's tri-match at the Dome with a three-set win over Carolina University.
Rams scored first but Carolina reeled off three straight to take the lead. The Rams tied at four and took the lead on a kill by Eric Duron. The teams battled each point and Bluefield eventually moved ahead by three, when CU called time. BC continued its rally and the lead grew to six midway through the opening set. The Bluefield College lead was as high as 10 and the Rams went on win the opening set 25-15.
In set two the teams were close at the onset until the Rams scored six straight to create distance between the squads. After a Carolina time out pushed their lead to nine and CU used its final time out half way through the set. The Rams won 25-15 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
BC opened a quick four-point lead in the third set, but Carolina battled back to within a point of the lead. Bluefield regrouped and ran out to a seven-point advantage at 13-6. The Rams continued to control the set and won 25-14 to take the match.
Alberto Chiaparini had 22 kills, while Caleb Word, on his birthday, had 30 assists and 11 digs. Colby Mutter also had 11 digs, and Leonel Fernandez finished with 10 digs.
