St. Andrews takes gridiron win over Rams

LAURINBURG, N.C. – Football had a second-half surge, but it was too much to overcome and the Rams fell 55-32 to the St. Andrews Knights, Saturday afternoon in a Mid-South Conference Appalachian Division contest.
St. Andrews on their initial drive drove 72 yards for the score. The Knights built a 20-0 lead and with one second remaining on the first quarter clock Bluefield College got on the board with a 26-yard field goal by Tanner Griffith. SAU led 27-3 at halftime.
The Rams, on their first possession of the second half, got their first touchdown when Bryce Verble connected with Antonio Strickland for a 66 yard scoring play.
Verble later connected with Lowell Patron on a 15-yard scoring strike, Jaquan Ebron from 10 yards out, and Matthew Trevillian from 24 yards. It was however, not enough as the Rams fell for the second time this season to St. Andrews, and dropped their fifth consecutive game.
Verble finished 29-of-47 for 347 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions. Verble was also BC's leading rusher with 30 yards. Defensively DaMarcus Wimbush led Bluefield with 10 tackles and Sam Kirtley added nine.
The Rams conclude their home schedule Saturday, March 27 when Reinhardt visits Mitchell Stadium.
