Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Georgetown defeats Rams

BLUEFIELD – Men's volleyball returned to the Dome Gymnasium after an eight-game road trip and dropped a three-set decision to nationally receiving votes Georgetown College. The Tigers defeated the Rams 25-17, 25-17, 25-14.
Georgetown opened a seven-point lead at 13-6, and Bluefield College used its first time out. Coming out of the time out the Rams scored a pair of consecutive points on a kill by Alberto Chiaparini, and another by Leonel Fernandez. The Rams battled, but the bigger Georgetown team took the first set.
The Rams scored first in the second set and battled closely until GC built a seven-point lead which later grew as high as 11. The Rams rallied late, and cut the lead to seven before falling 25-17.
Georgetown controlled play in the third set and took a 24-14 win to capture the match.
"I think that after a long set of road games where we were coming back-and-forth to school, to class, back out on the road, I was really encouraged to see us fix some things when we were finally able to practice. I saw our guys really compete and wanted to play hard, and execute some of the things we taught at practice after a long road trip," said Rams head coach Alfonso Alvarez.
"However, I have got to say Georgetown is a really strong team, really big, very capable and that's what you saw on the scoreboard. But the little things that we were able to see, that don't show up on the scoreboard, or don't show up on the stat book, was what was encouraging and I really expect us to get out of this losing streak soon because we're developing well, we're teaching well, the kids are really getting after it."
Caleb Word led Bluefield with 19 assists. Chiaparini had seven kills and Jariel Diaz had six kills and seven digs.
The Rams are in Midway, Ky., Saturday to take on Midway in a conference match and Carlow in a non-conference contest.
