Warner snaps winning streak

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Men's volleyball put forth a valiant effort but had its two-game winning streak snapped Friday night by Warner University. The Royals claimed a four-set win over the Rams in the Mid-South Conference POD held at Campbellsville University.
Warner went up 7-2 in the opening set. After a time out the Rams closed to within three. Warner took the opening set 25-16.
Bluefield College claimed the early lead in set two before Warner went on a 9-1 run to take the lead. The Royals led by as many as six before the Rams got to within a point at 17-16. BC tied things at 17 on Alberto Chiaparini's kill. The Rams won set two 25-23.
The teams were within a point of each other in the third until WU took a four-point lead, 13-9. Bluefield tied at 15, but Warner went on a 10-2 run to close the set and get the win 25-17.
Warner took a 7-1 lead to open the fourth set and increased its lead to 10 at 18-8. Royals took the set 25-13 to win the match.
After the match head coach Alfonso Alvarez said, "Tonight we played a team that was receiving votes and considered one of the top teams in the nation early in the season. It was an excellent opportunity for us to learn how to play at a high level. I am very proud of the effort and fight that our team gave tonight."
Caleb Word had 25 assists and Colby Mutter 18 digs. Jariel Diaz had 13 kills and Leonel Fernandez nine. Alvaro Grande finished with four blocks.
The Rams complete POD play Saturday afternoon against St. Andrews at 1 p.m. The Rams and SAU have split a pair of matches this season. Neither of the two previous matches were considered conference matches.
