Union pulls away late to top BU women

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. – Bluefield University women's basketball dropped its Appalachian Athletic Conference opener Tuesday evening 77-64 to the Union College Bulldogs.
Union had the early led and led 15-10 after one quarter. The Rams bounced back in the second and carried a 31-28 lead into the break. Union led by a bucket 53-51 as the fourth quarter began. The Rams were within five points with three minutes to play, but Union pulled away in the final minutes for its final margin of victory.
Kylie Meadows sat atop the BU scoring column with 19 points. Destiny Long added 13. Tianna Crockett and Jadyn Hoover each had six rebounds to lead the Rams. BU shot 37% from the floor in the game.
Brooke Hammond paced Union, recording a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds. The Bulldogs shot 52% from the field.
The Rams return home Thursday to take on Columbia International University. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30.
