Late Buffalo charge upends Rams

BLUEFIELD – Bluefield University women's basketball gave it all they had Tuesday night at the Dome Gymnasium but fell late to the Milligan University Buffaloes 87-84 in Appalachian Athletic Conference action.
Milligan came into the game undefeated in conference play with a 6-0 record, but it was the Rams who jumped on top. A fast-paced affair, both teams came out firing in the opening quarter as Milligan made five three-point baskets and the Rams four. The teams were knotted at 28 after the first 10 minutes. Bluefield continued its stellar play in the second period and led 47-43 at the half. Kylie Meadows had 21 first half points for the Rams.
BU continued to hold the lead over the Buffaloes and led 69-62 after three. Milligan tied the game at 77 with five-and-a-half minutes to go and took its first lead moments later. The Rams forged back ahead only to see MU tie the game at 80 with three minutes remaining. Tianna Crockett drained a three with 47.1 seconds on the clock to tie the game at 84, but those would be Bluefield's final points of the night. The Rams were forced to foul and the Buffaloes sank three free throws in the final 29 seconds for their margin of victory.
Meadows led Bluefield with 30 points and nine rebounds. Emily Breeding had a season-high 20 points, and Destiny Long tallied a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. The Rams shot 45 percent from the field in the contest. Jaycie Jenkins led Milligan with 32 points and nine rebounds.
