Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Point holds off late Rams charge

BLUEFIELD – Men's basketball took to the court for the first time in calendar year 2021 and for the first time since their Dec. 5 exhibition at Liberty University. The Rams welcomed the Point Skyhawks to the Dome for an AAC contest and fell in a hard-fought battle 78-74.
Point opened with a 4-0 lead and Trent Dunn got the Rams on the board with a three-point play the old-fashioned way two minutes into the game. Rob Littlejohn's two free throws a minute later gave BC its first lead and Dunn extended it with a steal and a layup. Point then rattled off 11 unanswered points to retake the lead forcing the Rams to call time, down 15-7. The Skyhawks held onto the lead and midway through the opening half the visitors were ahead by nine, 26-17.
Point controlled tempo and went ahead by 13 with just under five minutes remaining in the half. The Rams did not quit and closed to within five with just over two minutes on the first half clock. Point carried a 40-31 lead into the break.
Brandon Shields drained a three from the right baseline to open the second half and bring the Rams to within six points of the lead. Omega Stitt later hit a three to close the gap to four points, four minutes into the half. Shields' third trey of the half brought BC to within three at 49-46. The Skyhawks led by 10, 60-50 midway through the final half. Point surged and with 6:53 to play the Skyhawks held a 69-54 lead. The Rams fought back to within four in the final minute, but it was not enough as Point took the 78-74 win.
Jermiah Jenkins topped the Rams scoring column with 24 points. Webb and Christian Bullock each tallied 10. Volante Carroll in his BC debut had seven rebounds, as did Stanley Christian.
