BLUEFIELD - The Tusculum University Pioneers staked claim on a three set win over men's volleyball Tuesday night at the Dome Gymnasium in non-conference action.
In the first set the teams were tied at each point until six when Tusculum forged ahead by five and BC used its first time out. The Pioneers went on to claim the opening set 25-19.
In set two the Rams staked claim to the early lead 5-2 before TU tied things at five. The Pioneers took their first lead at 9-9 and moved ahead by five. The visitors went on to win the set 25-17.
The third and final set saw Tusculum open a 4-1 lead before the Rams charged back to tie the score at seven. The Pioneers then moved ahead by five and won the final set 25-19 to take the match.
Caleb Word led Bluefield with 19 assists and Carleek Owens had 10 kills and seven digs. Colby Mutter had a team-high nine digs.
