Rams shoot past Buffaloes

BLUEFIELD - Niquan Cousins had a double-double and led three Bluefield College scorers in double figures as the Rams defeated AAC foe Milligan 83-73, Wednesday night at the Dome Gymnasium to improved to 10-9 in conference play and 12-13 overall.
In the first five minutes of the game the lead went back-and-forth and Milligan held a four-point advantage at the 13-minute mark. The Rams tied it on Cousins' basket at the 17 and took the lead on Damauri Sexton's bucket with 11:30 to go in the half. Another Sexton basket put BC up by four. Bluefield opened a six-point lead later in the first half and a Sexton jumper with 20 seconds before the break gave BC a nine-point lead which it took into the locker room, 38-29.
The Rams' defense held Milligan to 33 percent shooting in the first half, while BC connected on 50 percent of its shots. There were a total of nine lead changes in the first 20 minutes.
A Sexton trey started the second half and BC's lead grew as high as 13 before in a quick two-minute span Milligan cut things to four-points. The game remained close until the waning minutes when the Rams pulled away at the free throw line for the final margin of victory.
Stanley Christian topped the Bluefield scoring column with 21 points and Sexton finished with 20 and four assists. The Rams shot 64 percent from the field in the second half and for the game finished at 56 percent, while holding Milligan to 36 percent.
