BLUEFIELD - On a blustery day at Bowen Field baseball won its home opener over the University of Pikeville 14-13 in come-from-behind fashion Wednesday evening.
The Rams scored eight times to take the lead in the second inning breaking a 1-1 tie only to see the Bears score seven runs in the third to retie the game. Pikeville scored in the fourth, fifth and sixth to take the lead before the Rams pushed across the final two runs in the bottom of the ninth for the victory.
Andreas Holtzer led Bluefield at the plate as he knocked in four runs with a pair of hits.
Edgardo Bernard had three hits with three RBIs.
Ozzie Millet,
Wayne Butler and
Elianel Mejia all had two hits. Butler knocked in a pair of runs and Mejia brought home three runs.
Justin Coleman, the seventh and final Bluefield pitcher of the game, worked the final two innings and picked up the win.
The Rams host Ohio Christian for a weekend series beginning with a doubleheader Saturday that starts at 1 p.m.
