Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Rams fall in tough battle at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Men's Basketball ventured to the newly opened Liberty Arena at Liberty University and fell late to the NCAA Division I Flames 86-64, Saturday afternoon.
The Rams scored the game's first points and the contest was close until late in the first half when Liberty opened a 16-point lead. Bluefield, however, battled back to make it a nine-point game at halftime, 52-43.
In the second half the depth of the Flames took over and in the final 10 minutes LU pulled away for its final margin of victory. The Liberty reserves out-scored the Bluefield reserves 32-2, a big factor in the game. Bluefield traveled with only nine players.
Jermiah Jenkins led Bluefield in scoring with 26 points. Stanley Christian recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 25 points and 11 rebounds.
"I am proud of how we played. We played hard and competed, and didn't give up," said Rams Head Coach Richard Morgan. "I was a little disappointed that we in the second half didn't shoot as well as we did in the first half. But it was a great effort and we are ready to move on to KCU."
The Rams shot 55% from the field in the opening half, compared to 31% in the second half. Nevertheless, Morgan believes the game was good for his players.
"I think it was a confidence builder for some, and for others it shows they have to work harder. The ones who played well may say, 'I can do that in our league.' The others who didn't play as well are saying, 'I can do better.'"
Morgan praised the play of all his players, but singled out one in particular.
"Trent Dunn played well today. He was coming out of 48 days of quarantine," Morgan said. "As a team we are still trying to find ourselves. I think overall our guys competed and played well."
The game was considered an exhibition for the Rams, who will face another NCAA Division I team on Thursday when they travel to Youngstown State. Before that is the conference matchup with Kentucky Christian on Wednesday.
