LAURINBURG, S.C. - For two sets Friday night Bluefield College women's volleyball looked like it was on the way to a victory. In the third set the tide turned and the St. Andrews University Knights took the last three sets to claim the win and snap the Rams' three-match winning streak.
The Rams took the opening set 25-17, and the second 26-24. Momentum shifted in the third as St. Andrews led throughout, building a nine point lead at 15-6 and going on to win 25-18. The Rams held the early lead in the fourth set and were up by as many as six before SAU rallied to tie at 19. The Knights forged ahead and won 25-23 to force a deciding fifth set. After a tie at four, SAU opened a 12-5 lead. The Rams came back to within three at 12-9, but the home team took the set 15-11 to win the match.
Aubri Whatcott had 39 assists for Bluefield. In the digs category
Kassidy Brown had 13,
Claire Fingerlin 11, and
Leslie Flores had 11 to go along with 16 kills.
Sophia Sansone finished with 10 digs, while
Jessica Wells had 23 kills.
The Rams conclude regular season play Saturday afternoon at Montreat.
