Brenau pulls away late against Rams

BLUEFIELD - The Brenau University Tigers pulled away in the game's final minutes to defeat women's basketball 75-65, Tuesday evening at the Dome Gymnasium.
 Kylie Meadows put the Rams on the board with a three and it was back-and-forth between the two teams throughout the first quarter. Ayanna Strother put the Rams ahead 19-18 with a minute to play in the period, sinking a pair of free throws. Buckets by Nialla Curtis and Cierra Cook extended teh Rams lead to 23-18, where it stood at the end of the first quarter.
Brenau rallied and tied the game at 25 with 7:00 showing on the second quarter clock. It stayed tight the rest of the half and the Tigers led 38-37 at halftime.
BU went out to its largest lead in the game, seven points, with 8:30 to play in the third. The Rams cut the lead to three midway through the quarter, and a Cook basked at teh three minute mark made it a two-point game. Brenau led 56-54 going into the final quarter.
Bluefield closed to within a point when Tianna Crockett made one-of-two free throws and the teams were never separated by more than three points until midway through the final period Brenau moved out to a six[-point advantage. The Rams got to within four, but in the final minute Brenau increased its lead to the final margin of victory.
Meadows led Bluefield with 18 points and nine rebounds. Curtis had a team-high 11 rebounds and scored nine points, while Cook finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
