BLUEFIELD - Michael Gutu scored a pair of goals and Devin Calloway added a score to lead men's soccer past Kentucky Christian University 3-2, Wednesday night at the East River Soccer Complex on Senior Night.
Gutu, a senior, started the scoring with a goal in the sixth minute.
Drake Cullens provided the assist. KCU knotted the game at one in the 11th minute on an Austin McGee goal. Gutu gave Bluefield the lead in the 27th minute when he found the back of the net with the assist going to
Jonathan Gonzalez. Bluefield led 2-1 at halftime.
Minutes into the second half Calloway scored in the 50th minute to give the Rams a 3-1 lead. The Knights drew closer in the 79th minute when Zachary Gomez scored to make it 3-2. The Rams held on the final 11 minutes to gain their first win of the season.
"It was good to shake some things out. We were really happy with the opportunities we created for this game," said head coach
Justin Morton. "We were in behind on goal quite a lot, a trend we've been building over the last three games. So it's good to see us get on the end of those opportunities and score. Now we're looking to carry this momentum into a big contest against a strong Montreat team on Saturday."
Prior to kickoff Bluefield College honored seniors
Ty Campbell and
