Rams get overtime win over KCU

BLUEFIELD - Men's basketball got in some overtime hours Tuesday night and needed every second to defeat Kentucky Christian in an AAC contest 104-102 at the Dome Gymnasium.
The Rams scored the game's first six points before KCU, behind strong three point shooting took the lead and went up 15-9. BC came back and fought to within a point with 7:40 to play in the half on a three-point-play by D'Monte Evans and later retook the lead on a pair of free throws by Wes Ayers. The rest of the half saw the teams battle for the lead and Bluefield carried a 45-41 lead into the intermission.
BC went up 10 in the first three minutes of the second half, but by the eight minute mark Kentucky Christian closed the gap to within eight. A minute later it was a two-point game and KCU within another minute took the lead on a three-point play. The Knights were up four with four minutes showing on the clock.
Jermiah Jenkins' basket with 36 seconds to play made it a two-point game, 86-84 in favor of the visitors from Kentucky and with 4.9 ticks on the clock Jenkins sank two free throws to tie the game at 86. KCU's shot at the buzzer bounded off the back of the rim and the game went to overtime.
In the extra period the Rams took the lead and did not relinquish it. KCU on several occasions got to within two points, but with Rams prevailed and earned the season sweep over the Knights.
Stanley Christian led BC with a Bluefield career high of 31 points and 12 rebounds. Jenkins added 24 points with nine assists. Evans finished with 15 points, while Niquan Cousins had 11 points, eight boards and three blocks. Damauri Sexton also had eight rebounds along with three blocks.
