BLUEFIELD - St. Andrews defeated men's volleyball in a Mid-South Conference match Saturday afternoon at the Dome in four sets.
In the opening set the Rams took an early two-point lead which grew to four at 17-13. The Knights climbed back and tied things at 19 and took the lead 20-19.
Chris Dixon's kill pulled Bluefield back even at 20, but St. Andrews took a 23-21 lead and went on to win the opening set 25-23.
St. Andrews opened a quick six-point lead in the second set but after a Bluefield timeout the Rams closed to within two points. A pair of
Eric Duron kills later pulled BC to within a point before SAU pulled away and again increased its lead to six. The Rams made a final charge but could not get any closer than three and SAU took the second set 25-18.
Each team had the lead and there were ties along the way early before Bluefield claimed an 18-17 lead and pushed it to three points at 21-18 in the third set. The Rams went on to win the set 25-18.
The fourth set was close early, but SAU pulled away late to win 25-20 and take the match.
Chaz Franqui led Bluefield with 35 assists.
Alberto Chiaparini had 15 kills and eight digs while
Carleek Owens had 10 kills and seven digs. Duron had a season and career-high nine kills.
