BLUEFIELD - The temperature was below freezing and the wind chill made it below zero, but the Rams softball team was red hot Friday afternoon against their crosstown rival Bluefield State Lady Blues. The two teams met at Graham Rec Park and Bluefield College took a doubleheader from Bluefield State 9-0 and 9-1, allowing BSC only six hits on the afternoon.
In the opening game
Lexi Harmon tossed a complete game four-hitter for the Rams. Harmon struck out nine and did not walk a batter. At the plate
Laken Sparks belted a three-run home run in the third inning and
Brynn Kennedy smaked a pinch-hit solo shot in the bottom of the fourth.
Game two saw Sparks toss a two-hitter in the circle. Sparks struck out four and did not allow a walk.
Riley O'Neal hit a grand slam home run in the second inning.
Kristin Storer was 3-for-3 for BC, while
Carlee King was 2-for-3 and
Veronica Casanova was 2-for-2.
The two teams meet again on March 26th.
