LAURINBURG, N.C. - Needing a win in the final game of the season to reach next week's Appalachian Athletic Conference tournament, women's basketball held off a late charge from St. Andrews University and claimed an 84-76 win.
Danae Cox, in her final regular-season game, scored a career-high 30 points. Cox hit six three-point shots and was eight-for-eight from the free throw line, most of them in the game's final minutes, key to the Rams' victory. She also had five assists. Her previous career high was 28 points in a game against Allen on Nov. 30, 2017.
Cierra Cook finished with 14 points and
Tiyanna Scott added 11.
The Rams had a lead as high as 18 points in the game before St. Andrews mounted its comeback.
Bluefield will play next on Thursday in the AAC tournament at the Meadowview Conference and Resort Center in Kingsport, Tenn.
