Women's basketball bounces Brenau

BLUEFIELD – Women's basketball picked up an important AAC win Tuesday night at the Dome, defeating Brenau University 72-60.
Brenau took the early lead but the Rams went ahead for the first time midway through the opening quarter on Danae Cox's three, 7-6. A long two by Cox a minute late pushed the BC lead to 9-6 and a Courtney Kendrick bucket put the Rams on top 11-6. Brenau fought back and tied it at 11 with 90 seconds to go in the quarter and took the lead with a minute left in the period. Two free throws by Kierra Bell-Linnear tied it at 13 with half a minute showing on the clock. Haley Turman's bucket gave the Rams a two-point lead with 10 seconds to go and Brenau made a shot at the buzzer to knot the game at 15 after one quarter.
Emily Hart drained a three two minutes into the second quarter to give the Rams a five point lead 20-15. The Tigers slowly climbed their way back into the game and midway through the quarter they knotted the game at 25, they later tied the game at 28. The Rams went on a 9-2 run to close the half and take a 37-30 lead into the intermission.
By the midway point of the third the Rams there had only been three points scored in the third quarter and the Rams' lead was at 10 points, 40-30. BC pulled away in the quarter, leading by as many as 18 points.  as Brenau scored only four points in the stanza. The Rams led 58-38 going to the final 10 minutes.
The teams battled in the final quarter and the Rams went on to claim their 14th victory of the year against 14 losses and improved to 13-11 in conference play.
Cox led BC with 22 points and Tianna Crockett added 16. Turman had a team-high nine rebounds.
The Rams will observe Senior Night on Thursday as Milligan comes to the Dome.
