BLUEFIELD - Kianna Campbell fired in 16 points, snagged six rebounds and dished out two assists all category leaders for the Bluefield College Rams, but BC fell in the women's Battle of the Bluefields 66-56, Monday night at the Ned Shott Gymnasium on the Bluefield State College campus.
Tianna Crockett started the game and put the Rams ahead with a three and a bucket by
Cierra Cook and another basket by Crockett gave BC an early 9-3 lead. The Rams went on to lead 17-10 at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Blues took command in the second period and midway through the quarter had cut the Rams' lead to two.
Ralayah McRae's baseline drive and bucket later extended BC's lead to five, but BSC managed to make it a two-point game at the five minute mark. State took its first lead with three minutes to play before halftime and led by one, 29-28 at the intermission.
Kendal Cloninger dropped in a long three to start the third quarter for the Rams and give BC a 31-29 lead, but State charged back and took a 37-32 lead. The Rams cut the lead to three halfway through the quarter and Campbell's driving layup with 4:08 in the third made it a one-point game. BSC then went on a 10-4 run to pull away.Â
BC made a final charge in the final quarter. Campbell's bucket with four minutes to play cut BSC's lead to three at 57-54. That was as close as the Rams would get as Bluefield State won for the first time over Bluefield College since the 2014-15 season.
Crockett added 15 points and
Cierra Cook 11 for the Rams.
