BLUEFIELD – Women's volleyball defeated Bryan College Saturday morning for its fifth consecutive win. The Lions came into the Dome in second place in the AAC North Division, but the Rams took the match in four sets 25-17, 25-22, 22-25, 25-22.
In the match
Paige Fisher surpassed the 1,000 career mark in digs. Fisher finished the day with 23 digs.
The Rams took the commanding early lead in the first set, going ahead 9-2 and forcing the Lions to use a time out. Bluefield continued its aggressive play and maintained its lead throughout the set and the Rams went on to tame the Lions in the first set 25-17.
Bryan jumped ahead 5-1 in the second set and pushed its lead to nine at 12-3 by which time the Rams had used both of their time outs. After the second time out the Rams reeled off five consecutive points to cut into Bryan's lead and make it 13-8. Bluefield continued to battle and got to within three on a kill by
Adrianah Grajeda. The Rams got to within a point at 21-20, and again at 22-21 and tied things at 22. The Rams forged ahead 23-22 and went on to take the set 25-22.
Bryan came out strong in set three and took an 8-3 lead. Bluefield got to within two of the lead but the Lions pulled away with a five point lead midway through the set. The Rams rallied late and made it a two-point game at 19-17, but Bryan responded with three straight points. Bluefield didn't give up and the Rams charged back and tied it at 22. Bryan retook the lead 23-22 and went on to claim the set 25-22.
Set four saw Bluefield take the early lead and build it as high as five points. Bryan challenged and closed to within three at 17-14, and on a technical error got to within two. The Rams took charge and pulled away, building their lead back to five at 20-15. Bryan again closed the gap to two points at 21-19. The Rams went on to win 25-22.
In addition to Fisher's 23 digs
Leslie Flores had 21,
Claire Fingerlin had 14, and
Kassidy Holloway 14. Holloway also had 42 assists.
Katie Kendrick had a team-high 16 kills while
Gabby Rigsby added 11 and Flores 10.
