BLUEFIELD, W.Va. - Women's volleyball claimed the first round of the Battle of the Bluefields on the volleyball court Tuesday night, taking a three-set win over the Bluefield State College Lady Blues 25-8, 25-13, 25-15 at the Ned Shott Gymnasium on the BSC Campus.
The Rams rolled to a 9-0 lead in the opening set all on the serving ofÂ
Kassidy Holloway. BC extended its lead to 18-8 on back-to-back service aces by
Claire Fingerlin later in the set. BC went on to claim that opening set 25-8.
Set two was closer at the onset and the teams were tied at each point to six before the Rams went on a 6-0 lead to move ahead 12-6. BC won set two 25-14.
The third and final set of the night saw Bluefield State open a 3-0 lead before the Rams tied the Blues at four then went on a 7-0 run. The Rams won the set 25-15 to take the match.
Rachel Sefton and Holloway led the Rams with 10 assists apiece.
Bethany Mullins had 15 digs,
Whitley Phipps added 14 and
Paige Fisher added 12.
Gabi French had a team-high four kills.
