Rams lance Knights in double overtime

BLUEFIELD – Playing their first home game of the new year, men's basketball snapped their three-game losing skid with a xx-xx double overtime win over the St. Andrews Knights at the Dome.
The first half was tightly-contested and neither team had more than a three-point lead until the final two minutes when St. Andrews caught fire and expanded its lead as high as 11 points. The Knights went into the locker room with an eight point lead, 42-34.
BC quickly cut into SAU's lead in the second half and it was a four-point game four minutes in. It was a two-point game at the 15-minute mark and Jorge Concepcion III's trey with just under 14 minutes to play made it a one-point game, 50-49.
St. Andrews re-extended its lead with a pair of buckets and a three to go back up 57-49, forcing the Rams to call time. Following the timeout the Knights pushed their lead to 10. A bucket by Ty'quon Reid at the five minute mark made it a four-point game but SAU responded with a bucket.
A pair of free throws by Trent Dunn with 2:56 to play made it a three-point game, 66-63 and Dunn went back to the line with 2:40 left and dropped two more to make it 66-65. Reid's driving basket in the lane gave BC the lead 67-66 with a minute to play and a three by SAU put the Knights back on top 69-67 with :56.0 showing on the clock.
Donal Gooch's put- back with 34.1 left tied the game at 69. Cousins stole the ball on the SAU lane with seven seconds remaining and Bluefield called time with 4.1 left after a shot clock malfunction. SAU then called time. SAU stole the inbounds pass and a shot at the buzzer missed, sending the game to overtime.
Bluefield took the lead in overtime on a Gooch free throw, 70-69. Reid made two of three free throws with 1:54 in the extra period to give BC a three point lead before SAU closed it to a point. A BC bucket, then a St. Andrews three retired the game at 74 with 1:04 to go in the first overtime.
Both teams missed shot opportunities and with :12.4 remaining St. Andrews called time.
Against full court pressure SAU drove he court and missed a shot. BC rebounded but a desperation shot failed at the buzzer, sending the game to overtime number two.
