Women's basketball holds off late Union charge

BLUUEFIELD - The Rams from Bluefield College welcomed the Bulldogs from Union College Wednesday night and claimed a 78-75 win at the Dome.
To start of the first period Danae Cox scored first for the Rams and the Bulldogs quickly retaliated and took the lead. With multiple shots made by both the Rams and Bulldogs, the Bulldogs took a five-point lead. The Rams slowly started to come back but the Bulldogs kept advancing their lead and at the end of the first quarter Union led 22-19.
In the second the Rams took their largest lead, a five-point lead and were on top 42-37 at the end of the first half.
Bluefield grew its lead to 10 points, the biggest of the game for the Rams, in the third, but Union  closed the gap to only two at 55-53 at the end of the third quarter.
The Rams moved back ahead by seven points to start the fourth period and held off a Union charge late in the game for the conference win.
Cox and Courtney Kendrick that led in rebounds at 12 for the Rams with 22 points. Kierra Bell-Linnear had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Tianna Crockett added 10 points.
Logan Calvert led Union College led in points with 28, who is coached by Tim Curry, who formerly coached at Bluefield College.
