BLUEFIELD – Women's volleyball won its second game in a row with a four-set win over AAC foe Bryan, Tuesday night at the Dome Gymnasium.
With Camry McCroskey serving to start the match the Rams scored the first five points and quieted the Lions' roar. The Rams maintained a four and five point lead through the early and middle part of the first game and built it as high as seven in the middle of the set before pulling away late and getting the win 25-16.
Bryan scored first in game two but it did not take Bluefield long to capture the lead. The teams battled, exchanging the leads and each forcing ties. Midway through the set Bluefield built a three-point lead and increased it to four on a kill by Katie Kendrick. Bryan came back to within a point at 19-18 and again at 21-20 before the Lions tied things at 21-all. After a Rams time out a McCroskey kill put Bluefield back on top and the Rams went on to take game two 25-22.
After an extremely long opening volley Bryan took the first point in game three and moved ahead 4-0. Down five the Rams slowly climbed back into the game and knotted things at 10-10. The Rams took their first lead of game three, 13-12. Bryan retook the lead and went up 18-16, forcing Bluefield to call time. The Lions extended their lead to six points and took the game 25-20 to force a fourth game.
The game three win appeared to boost Bryan's confidence early as the K gained the early
Advantage in the fourth game. The Rams fought back and took a slim lead. After a Bryan time out, Bluefield extended its lead to four points at 13-9. The Rams went on the attack and forged ahead 18-11. Bluefield went on to win the game 25-19 and take the match.
Kendrick had 16 kills and six digs for Bluefield. Kaleigh Barker had 12 kills and 12 dig and Taylor Southerland had 10 kills. McCroskey had a season-high 46 assists and 11 digs. Kailee Kay had 15 digs and Paige Fisher finished with 16 digs.
