BLUEFIELD – It was an exciting night of volleyball at the Dome Gymnasium as the Rams gave the Milligan Buffaloes all they could handle. Milligan came into the game in first place in the AAC North Division with an 18-4 overall record and an 11-2 conference mark, while the Rams entered 9-11 overall and 6-7 in the AAC. In the end the Buffaloes claimed a 3-0 win. The loss snapped the Rams' two-game winning streak.
The teams fought closely in the first game tied at the early points before Milligan took a two-point lead and Bluefield called its first time out. The Buffaloes then extended their lead to three after the Rams regrouped. BC climbed back and tied things at 10, then, took their first lead at 11-10. It was then Milligan's turn to make a charge and the Buffaloes scored six unanswered to forge ahead 16-11. Milligan pushed its lead to 19-12 and BC called its final time out of the first game. The Buffaloes went on to take game one 25-14.
Game two was close early. Milligan went up by three, but a Katie Kendrick kill pulled the Rams back to within a point. MC went up again by three but a Camry McCroskey ace brought the Rams within a point once again. Hannah McElroy's kill again brought BC within a point of the Buffaloes, but BC could not seem to draw even. Milligan went up by five and the Rams called time, down 17-12. Milligan won the second game 25-16.
Bluefield claimed the early lead in the third game, going up 3-0 before Milligan scored. Milligan slowly climbed back and came to within one, but the Rams pulled back away, recapturing their three-point lead, and extending it to four when Milligan called time out for the first time in the entire match. The Rams stayed hot and Kaleigh Barker's service ace gave BC a five-point lead and MC called its final time out of the third game, down 16-11. Like a thundering herd the Buffaloes stormed back to within three of the lead at 20-17 when Bluefield called time. Milligan then scored two after the time out to come within a point and tied it when a BC return went out. The visitors went on to win the third game 25-22 and take the match.
McCroskey led BC with 18 assists and eight digs. Barker had a team-high 20 digs, while Kay had 15 digs. Paige Fisher finished with 12 digs.
